Why should we pray?

Prayer lies at the very heart of a Christian’s relationship with the living God and we want to encourage one another in the discipline and joy of daily prayer. There are several reasons why we might pray. These can include thanking God for what He has given us, praising God for who He is, asking God for help or telling Him that we’re sorry and asking for forgiveness. Or we might simply want to tell God what’s on our hearts.

Essentially prayer is about a relational conversation with the God who made us individually unique, significantly valued and precious, in addition to being supremely and unconditionally loved. Prayer underpins everything we do here in the parish, as we see God transforming lives.

Our love for God through prayer
can be expressed in many ways,

you may find some of these helpful:

One way this can be followed is by the acronym PRAY

  1. Praise: Reading one of the Psalms in the Bible or listening and singing with your favourite Christian hymns and song.
  2. Repent: seeking God’s forgiveness, “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner”
  3. Ask: Bringing the issues on our heart through the prayer, “Lord, give me a longing to pray to You”
  4. Yield: Praying with open hands, “Your kingdom come, Your will be done in my life”

We are excited to launch new Monthly Prayer Meetings as we collectively and intentionally seek God’s presence in our lives, our church, our nation and our world.

Lectio 365 is inspired by Lectio Divina, a way of meditating on the Bible that’s been used by Christians for centuries. Each week focuses on one of 24-7 Prayer’s core values, six practices that help us live like Jesus prayer, mission, justice, creativity, hospitality and learning.

There is a focus on seasons like Advent and Lent, with special guest writers from around the world. Both text and audio options are available and can be downloaded up to a week in advance to read or listen to later.
