But Mary treasured all these words  and pondered them in her heart.’
Luke 2:19

‘At the heart of Christmas’ is the Church of England’s theme for Advent and Christmas 2021. Inspired by readings from the Gospels of Luke and John read at so many Christmas services, it is an invitation to everyone to discover, or rediscover, the good news of God’s saving love as revealed in the birth of Jesus.

It is also a challenge to each of us to ponder in our hearts, as Mary did, what the extraordinary events of the first Christmas might mean for us now and in the years ahead.

As we move through Advent, preparing ourselves for Christmas, many people have found it helpful to spend time reflecting on what this really means for us, our family, our friends, our community.

We invite you to take advantage of these reflections, stories and meditations, in addition to other resources, this Advent and Christmas:

  • From the Church of England there are Advent Reflections from 29th November to 24th December by the Archbishop of York as well as two other bishops entitled Reflections for Advent. The booklet of these reflections can be obtained from Church House Publishing at £3.59.
  • At the heart of Christmas is full of stories and meditations by the two Archbishops covering the period from 24th December through to 6th January. This booklet can also be obtained from Church House Publishing at 80p. For further details click here.

The Church of England also has other activities and resources as part of its theme of AtTheHeartOfChristmas. These include an online family Advent calendar, daily Christmas activities and details of events. For more information click here.
